October 27, 2014 – St. Louis, Missouri – After many years active in many social justice movements, Laura Rand Orthwein, Jr., also known as “Laura X,” announced the formation of the new Laura X – Laura Rand Orthwein, Jr. World Institite. This Institute will offer opportunities for education, research, history, high school and college curricula, academic study, and scholarship awards, including a broad range of media, from print and electronic journalism to documentary films to music. The Institute will promote understanding of the issues underpinning the 20th century women’s movement and educate the world about the work of the pioneers in the 1960’s and 70’s (and beyond), to establish women’s rights along with other issues of human rights. This includes both the legacy of and the learning about social justice movements in which Laura has participated for over 55 years, while underscoring that women’s rights are human rights.
